Sony to Take Concord Offline Just Two Weeks After Release

Sony has announced that its online multiplayer game Concord will be taken offline just two weeks after its launch on August 23. Developed by Firewalk Studios and available exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PC, the game struggled to attract enough players, leading to this decision. According to Ryan Ellis, the game director, Concord will be removed from sale on September 6, and all players who purchased the game will receive a full refund.

Concord is a hero shooter game, where players form teams made up of characters with unique abilities, similar to popular games like Overwatch and Valorant. Despite being in development for eight years, the game failed to stand out in the highly competitive multiplayer market. At its peak, the game only reached 660 concurrent players, far less than leading titles like Counter-Strike 2, which boasts millions of active players.

Ellis acknowledged that certain aspects of the game didn’t resonate as expected and mentioned that the developers will use this time to explore new ways to improve the game and better reach their audience.

Looking forward, Sony will continue to invest in multiplayer and live-service games, though the challenges faced by Concord highlight how tough it is to break into this market, even with years of development.
