Fans surprised to discover that Shadowheart is over 40 years old

Baldur’s Gate 3 players were astonished to learn Shadowheart is over 40 years old owing to elf antics.

Players can initially recruit Shadowheart, a half-elf cleric, in Baldur’s Gate 3. She seems young and interacts with others like she is. Players discover Shadowheart is over 40 in Act 3.

Many players, who believe elves are immortal, are surprised by this. Elves in the Forgotten Realms live long but are not immortal. They live roughly 750 years, but magic or other unnatural factors can accelerate aging.

Shadowheart was cursed by a strong Sharran cleric as a child. The curse accelerated her aging, forcing her to abandon home and family to pursue a cure. After joining the Zhentarim mercenary company, she learnt to manage her power and battle the curse.

When Shadowheart and her friends visit the Sharran enclave on the Astral Plane, her age is revealed. When she confronts the cleric who cursed her, she breaks the curse. This allows her to age normally again, but she is now past 40.

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans have responded differently to Shadowheart’s age. Some players were astonished by her age, but others admired her power and persistence. Some players thought Shadowheart’s age made her more complex and relatable.
