How Assassin’s Creed Mirage Improves Combat

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action video game that aims to revive the original Assassin’s Creed franchise by focusing on stealth and parkour. The game follows a similar formula, paring back the combat mechanics of recent RPG entries and putting the focus back on stealth and parkour. Although not as mechanically rich as its predecessors, Assassin’s Creed Mirage still makes significant improvements to the original combat formula.

Other Assassins Creed Combat

In the original 2007 Assassin’s Creed, combat was rare and often felt like punishment. However, with the release of Assassin’s Creed 2, combat was overhauled, making encounters more rewarding but still emphasizing stealth. As each new Assassin’s Creed entry introduced new mechanics, such as a parry, dodge roll, and gear system, combat became the primary focus of the series’ gameplay loop.

Mirage tries to strike a balance between these two approaches, improving on the original Assassin’s Creed combat formula in several ways. Instead of discarding the original combat systems completely, Mirage pares them back to return the series to its stealthier roots. This is achieved by making combat much more skill-based than it was in the original Assassin’s Creed series. Players now have to time their parries and strike effectively when facing open combat.

Dodge Roll

Another key feature of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the dodge roll, which is a vital part of combat, especially when fighting larger groups of enemies. This mechanic ensures players feel challenged during combat encounters and encourages more stealthy play. Despite being less involved than its RPG predecessors, Assassin’s Creed Mirage remains miles above what the original 2007 game offered and much more skill-based and rewarding than most original formula Assassin’s Creed titles.
