Path of Exile 2 will now be a standalone release
“Path of Exile 2 will now be a standalone release”
The upcoming follow-up to the 2014 action role-playing game Path of Exile had been anticipated to improve upon the original game in many ways. While the original action RPG’s story would remain accessible, Path of Exile 2 would provide a brand new campaign and redesign the game’s endgame, much like Overwatch 2 did with the original title. Plans, however, have changed.
Path of Exile 2 will be a standalone game that requires its own client, developer Grinding Gear Games said at this year’s ExileCon keynote.
Grinding Gear Games co-founder Jonathan Rogers has stated that “PoE2’s scope has continued to grow and grow” after the 2019 release date was announced. So far, the sequel has included six new classes, thirty-six ascendant classes, six hundred new monsters, one hundred bosses, 240 new active skills, 1,500 new passive skills, new mechanics (a dodge roll with no cooldown being one of the most well-received) and more.
“This thing is just freaking huge,” Rogers said. At one point, we recognized that switching to PoE2 would mean killing off a game that fans adored without any cause. This led us to the conclusion that Path of Exile 1 and 2 should be treated as distinct games with their own sets of rules, mechanics, balancing, endgames, and leagues.
However, there will be some cross-over between the games. Rogers also stated that, for as long as both games remain, players would be allowed to make in-game purchases (with the exception of areas where they are incompatible).
Rogers promised that all future purchases will be compatible with both games. “Everything you bought or are going to buy in the future will be accessible in both games unless that it’s hyper-specific to the material within one of them,” he said.
A reskin of your bear form won’t work because you can’t change into a bear in PoE1. However, you may spend every one of your stash tabs and put on that sweet new sword skin you bought. Path of Exile 2’s “Jungle Depths” Act 3 demonstration is currently underway, and it features the new Monk class, one of the six new playable classes in the sequel.

New Features of the Game
It has twelve character classes, two for each Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence combination. You may mix talents from many classes to design the perfect character. Each of the twelve character classes has three Ascendancy specializations, giving players 36 options.
The game will also include 240 Skill Gems, 200 Support Gems, a Passive Skill Tree with 2,000 skills, 700 equipment base kinds, 100 endgame maps, a boss battle, and modifiers for updated leagues.
The developer team promises to continue expanding both games and share purchases with the new addition.
At Grinding Gear’s ExileCon in November 2019, Path of Exile 2’s beta was scheduled for “very late 2020.”
The PC version was launched in 2013; Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions followed in 2017 and 2019.
Path of Exile 2 will be a free-to-play online multiplayer game featuring six-player co-op for Mac, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
